Chapter 12: Developing your argument

This chapter talks about your argument. Supporting your thesis statement is very important so you should have solid reasons backing it up. You should also have lots of evidence to support your thesis statement and reasoning. Another key part is knowing how to appeal to your readers. '

You should be careful to check the credibility of your argument  to make sure you are not making any incorrect assumptions. You should also check for fallacies based on misrepresentation or careless reasoning. 

Chapter 16: writing with style

This chapter talks about how to write concisely, use active and passive voice effectively, have a consistent point of view, and how to have good word choice. To make your paper more diverse, you should use sentences varying in length and style, use effective transitions between paragraphs, avoid sexist language, and read widely. The style in which your paper is written will have a strong impact on what the reader thinks.

Chapter 13: Organizing

In this chapter it talks about how you should go about organizing your project. It is important that while collecting information you separate it into different groups according to what its about. After collecting evidence and other information, you should create an outline. An outline will help you plan out how your paper will be organized and how the information will be presented. It will also help you realize if some sections of your paper are lacking information and where you could elaborate more.

Chapter 15: Using sources effectively

This chapter talks about the different ways to use sources to your benefit. You can use them to introduce an idea or argument, contrast ideas, provide evidence, define a concept, provide an example, or amplify a point. Integrating your sources into your paper was also a key part of this chapter. Quoting strategically, paraphrasing information, ideas, and arguments, and summarizing are all important skills that you should use while writing your paper. Another major part when dealing with sources is documenting them correctly. It is very important to distinguish between something that is your idea and something that you found on the internet that isn't common knowledge. You should have in text citations after inserting a quote and also have a thorough and correct Works cited page.

Chapter 9: Searching for information with print resources

This chapter talked about finding information using print sources. One of the main places to gather information from would be a local library. You can go through the shelves and look for books relating to your topic and check out the works cited page to find alike publications. You can also go to a reference room to find books such as specialized encyclopedias, almanacs, and handbooks. Bibliographies are also a good option if they are relevant to your topic. This chapter helped me know how to find different print sources on my topic.

Chapter 17: revising and editing

In this chapter it talks about revising your paper and the different strategies you should use to do that. Before revising you should consider your writing situation, the different ideas and arguments you are talking about, the genre, and the structure. By focusing on these different things it will help you to revise your paper correctly. The strategies you should use to revise your paper are to go through and highlight the main point, reasons, and evidence. You should also challenge your assumptions to make sure what you are saying in your paper is correct and also ask for feedback from others. Although others may have a different point of view, they may notice things that you skipped over by accident. While editing you should focus on the accuracy of your paper, the spelling and grammar, the consistency, and the style. When you are editing your paper you should make sure that you read it carefully and also have someone else read it thoroughly and give you any feedback.

Chapter 11: developing your thesis statement

This chapter talks about how to come up with your thesis statement. To do this you should review your position statement, review your notes, consider your purpose, and reflect on your readers. This will help you come up with a thesis that will match the sources you have acquired. To write your thesis statement you should identify important ideas, information, and arguments associated with your position. You should also write alternatives so you can later look back over them and see if you like one better than one you originally picked. Another thing that you should consider when writing your thesis statement is the type of document you are writing.
